Bump, Set, Hit: Sydney Schell Applies Teamwork Principles To New Role At Paulsen
Sydney Schell has started her new role as Project Manager at Paulsen and is quickly adapting to the demands of the job. "Everyone has been really warm and welcoming," says Sydney. "You always want to be in a place where people are going to help you learn and help you be successful."
The Aberdeen native graduated from Dakota State University (DSU) last fall with an individualized studies degree and a minor in marketing. She also captained the volleyball team and excelled as an outside hitter for the Trojans during her four years at DSU.
"We're excited to welcome Sydney to Paulsen," says President & CEO Marcus Squier. "Our team is thoroughly impressed with her knowledge and enthusiasm for the work at hand, in addition to some really noteworthy leadership experience, and we believe she will be able to apply those assets to her new role."
Sydney's interdisciplinary major at DSU gave her a strong foundation in marketing and communications principles, including digital marketing, design and economics. She was able to hone her skillset and, under the tutelage of respected professor Dr. Deb Tech, gain a clearer vision of what a career in marketing might look like.
"I want to be a good project manager," says Sydney. She believes her past experience as a team captain will come in handy as she coordinates people and projects from start to finish. "It's exciting because I have this leadership experience on the court, and I know I'll be able to utilize that skill set in a work setting."
Growing up in Aberdeen, Sydney was never too far removed from agriculture. She participated in FFA during high school and looks forward to learning more about the ag-focused work of many of Paulsen's clients.
Beyond work, Sydney enjoys cooking and baking, reading, drawing and doing an assortment of outdoor activities. She moved to Sioux Falls following graduation and looks forward to getting to know her new hometown. Her parents still live in Aberdeen, where her father is a shop foreman, and her mother teaches at nearby Northwestern Area School in Mellette, South Dakota.
